Here are a few pictures of my motorcycle tire changing setup. You could also use a grinder. You need to leave at least 6" of thread above the top of the 13" car rim. Here is a close up of the simple wing nut I welded up. This speeds up the mounting and removal of your motorcycle tire. Without removing the top 8" of threads on the threaded rod its a LONG way to turn that nut down to lock the tire on the rim.

I tie rapped some of that nylon reinforced flexible rubber hose to protect my motorcycle tire rims from scratches.

The rubber hose also helps keep the motorcycle rim from slipping when your mounting and de-mounting your tire. I use a piece of PVC pipe on the exposed metal rod to help protect the shiny finish on my no-scufftiretool and to protect the threads on the threaded rod. The PVC pipe covers the part of the rod that I removed the threads from and any left over threads after you lock the tire down.

How To Make A No Scuff Manual Tire Change Bar.

The wood protects the finish on the motorcycle tire rim when I torque it down to the car rim. After the wing nut is torqued down it becomes very stable so you can lever your tire tool around it easily. I wanted a nice flat surface for the rubber tubing to rest on and I wanted ample clearance so my brake rotors wouldn't touch the bottom of the car rim. My Valkyrie came just a bit to close for my liking.

Doing this also gave me a little more play to move the motorcycle rim around a bit, and get it centered correctly. I just used what I had. The top rod that you see in the picture keeps the motorcycle rim from spinning on the car rim, and the bottom rod keeps the car rim from spinning on the 2x6. When you mount your motorcycle rim on the car rim make sure to butt one of the spokes up against the rubber protected metal rod.

If you find one that doesn't please email me because I want to see it. One of the problems with the Harbor Freight tire changer is it has a tendency to let the rim spin when leverage is applied during the mount and demount process. A spinning rim is either going scratch your rims or make you cuss, probably both. Powered by GoDaddy Website Builder. While definitely not as stable or convenient as a heavier duty stand, the Red Line piece proved adequate for use with the No-Scuff tool, albeit just barely; but some modifications were necessary. Second, because the stand has multiple telescoping sections held in place with set screws too weak to resist the torque now transferred from the tire bar to the stand, we had to drill holes so the set screws could be replaced with bolts that solidly connected each section of post to its corresponding sleeve.

Finally, to keep the whole stand from turning with the tire bar, we temporarily bolted its base to the wooden floor of our bike transport trailer 4' x 4' of thick plywood would have worked, too. That may sound like a lot of trouble, but it saved hundreds of dollars compared to the Cycle Hill package, and very little will have to be repeated for future uses. Check the No-Scuff website for even cheaper ways to make your own tire changing station, as well as a beadbreaker and wheel balancing stand.

Any tire bar is vastly superior to tire irons, of that we are certain—at least with tubeless tires. Mounting Tip End The screws holding the nylon portion of the mount tip are countersunk, ensuring that no metal edges contact the wheel during use. But what if you bought the inexpensive stand and really liked the idea of using a high-leverage bar instead of tire irons?

Check them out for a much more thorough understanding of how this tool works. The bar is then rotated around the edge of the wheel, using a post rising up through the wheel center for leverage.

The effect is absolute magic. What would have required lots of time, sweat and cursing with tire irons was reduced to a second sweep involving shockingly little effort. Mounting is done in a similar fashion. Leveraging the bar around the central post during this process involved considerably more Demount Tip End The bead is slick with tire paste, so the angled steel portion of the mounting tip smoothly guides the bead from above to below the rim edge.

New Tire Stripper Tire Changer

Thread starter RaYzerman Start date Apr 3, I came across this and it looks like a good DIY tire changer. I like that it is compact and can be stored away in a small area. Check out the videos!! Perhaps we could get our Texas associates to give us a review!! I did notice however they are out of stock That is slick!!! I really like having the bead breaker at the same working height. Watched the video on changeing a wing tire. Picked up a few things that might make it easier to change the ST tire.

I really like the mount-demount bar, the double bar design looks like it makes it a lot easier to use. Only draw back I see is a lot small pieces that might be needed. Still very cool, and price seems to be in the ball park too.

George MOTY. Still pricey compared to Harbor Freight but the compact unit would work well with my Work Mate bench top. Already got the HF, so not for me. George said:.

How to Use a Manual Tire Changer - Harbor Freight

The Mojo is not available for a few weeks but should be back then. They appear to use two different techniques for installation. Joined: Mar 29, Oddometer: I just finished a tire change with the no mar bar and it went well no real problems with the right technique. Is anyone using the Nomar bar with Tourance, etc.

I just used it with two tourances on my gs adv. No problemo. Its all about technique not strength. You gotta outsmart the tire ADV Sponsors. Did you pretty much follow the video on their website? Did you use the wood blocks on the oposite side from the lever? I used one block which I held in place with one of those motorcycle tie downs because it kept popping out.

I just put the block in and then wrapped the tie around the tire and rim and pulled it tight over the block. It was really pretty easy. I was shocked at how smoothly the tire came off and getting them on was only marginally harder in fact I did it with two fractured ribs The bitchyist part was getting the damn bead to seat with my crappy compresser.Sick of using tire irons then watch the video! Two machine screws keep the nylon secure and from rotating.
